So. 2019 is here. And I want to start my research for this year's project, which will be a gas gun in 6.5CM. I don't reload, and have neither the time, the space nor the patience to reload, so I will be using factory loads exclusively. My question is, how do I figure out the best barrel length to burn all (or as much as possible) the powder of a given cartridge? I see a lot of bolt actions in aforementioned caliber in 24"-26", which would be more than I'm comfortable with in an AR 10 platform. Is there a formula I can apply? And, in your experience, what kind of velocity could I expect fron an 18-20" barrel (average speaking)?

Im going to gander your looking at about 100-150fps loss from 26-20" depending on bullet weight.
I would not worry much about powder burn. Again i have no real data or but i think the powder would be all used up before the gas port.?

Considering the muzzle velocity from a factory load, you're not going to lose anything noticeable.
Throw in a gas blowback system, still not a big deal unless you're going for a thousand yard hit.
In relative terms, its the equivalent of taking 20 lbs from a 2000 lbs.

The only thing you might run into with factory vs reloaded is larger f.p.s. spread, and again, that might not even be noticeable.
