Preban AR-15 Build Question

I’m sure this info is in the forums somewhere, but I wasn’t able to dig through it all. Maybe someone can point me to the answer I’m looking for:

In MA, what part(s) specifically are of interest when it comes to a Preban AR-15?

For example (and what I really care about), can I get a Preban lower but add a new upper? Or do both upper and lower need to be dated Preban?

If you have a preban lower. You Can put any upper on it as long as it 16” or longer. You can have a flash hider, ajustable stock and a bayonet lug.

The lower, the part with the serial number, determines if it is a preban. That is what determines it. Yes new upper can go onto preban lower and all is good.
