Is anyone here active in practical shooting competion?
It looks very interesting and want to find out more about it, I'd especially like to see an event. I like idea of a sport where, after a competion, I don't have to limp my 40 year old body around work for a week [thinking] ...
Seems like in CT there isn't many clubs involved, I tried to get in touch with one listed on the site but the number was incorrect.

See if you can PM 9X21 on this forum. He is a CT USPSA shooter.

If the mods could move this to Pistol Competition you will catch the eye of the USPSA group. For now, try Westfield, MA they shoot first Sunday every month and have a good crew. If you go, contact Chris or Judith and they will tell you what you need to do.

Good luck, it's a great sport.

There is an NES member named Rob Boudrie who may have a "little" information about USPSA in the New England area.

(This is meant to be a little joke which will become apparent if you contact Mr. Boudrie.)

Very active out here.
And don't bother just going to see one, you can see them on video, come out and shoot them!
Check out the Newbedford match from this sunday thread in this section, and you'll see video of three of the four stages.

..I'm too new here to be getting my ass in hot water....tx [wink]

Anyway...ended up spending afew hours reading sites and watching vids last night. Its great stuff, but there are some aspects that are confusing to me, I really want to put eyeballs on one "live".
Correct me if I'm wrong, IDPA comp is more "draw and shoot" opposed to USPSA comp which leans more toward "athletic movement and position shooting".

Both are “draw and shoot” but “athletic movement” in USPSA is probably an accurate statement, although it’s important in IDPA also.

IDPA is more constrained with what you can do, has lower round counts per stage, is geared toward only “carry type” firearms and equipment. USPSA is more open in what you may do and the firearm and the equipment you may use.

Both are fun have very good people in them and are run very safely.

There is a very good IDPA club close to Hartford, I’ll find their web page for you.

I can only comment on USPSA, but don't be too worried about the athletic movement aspect of USPSA. We do move around but there are few ranges that have the room to allow you to do much movement. This sport is meant to be fun. If you want to run you can run but if you prefer to walk or stand still that's OK too (with a little experiance and practice you'll be moving too). The age range of shooters I would guess is from the teens to 60s so athletic ability varies considerably. As was said, grab your gear and make it to a match. You will always find people willing to help a new shooter. Don't be intimidated after watching the videos either. We have our share of speedy accomplished shooters but some of us are slugs.

Don't get me wrong....The athletic part of USPSA is what first caught my eye.
I like competion but, reality is, contract sports rough a person up. I've been looking for something that combines all the elements I like without the limping, black eyes, etc.. hehe[wink] and yes I freakin' HATE golf

No worries, It's not supposed to be a contact sport and most times it isn't.
There are also weekly USPSA practice sessions at Harvard and Hopkinton.
