I own a Sig P6, with a number of mags. Would this gun be suitable for any of the local IPSC/USPAS competitions? I'm not that worried about being competitive, as even with a full race gun I would still be the limiting factor. I just want to get started in competitive action shooting.

Would I be better served by a full size gun that can carry at least 10 rounds? Also, 9mm is suitable for IPSC, I'd just likely have a minor power factor, right?

Your Sig would be suitable for Production division within USPSA (IPSC). In Production, you won't be competeing against race guns. Production has a mag capacity of 10 rounds (10+1 to start) but you can shoot and enjoy the game as you get started if your Sig holds less. All of Production is scored as Minor PF, so 9mm is ideal. A holster, mag pouches, 5 mags, and an awareness of safety will be all you need to bring with that gun.

Bring whatever you have, shoot slow and safe and don't be afraid to ask questions. A lot of the guys on this board helped me out a ton when I first started 2 years ago. But if someone offers to let you shoot their open gun, politely say no and slowly walk away. Don't get sucked into the dark side
