Just saw it on the news [sad]

BOSTON -- One person is dead after a double shooting at an auto parts warehouse in Webster on Monday morning. The search for the alleged gunman led police to a wooded area in Berlin on Monday afternoon.

NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported that Massachusetts State Police surrounded a wooded section of Berlin near the Solomon Pond Mall late Monday afternoon, and the alleged gunman, William Goddard, 38, of Worcester, was arrested.

At least one shot was fired at a state police helicopter during the 90-minute standoff, Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. said.

Authorities said Goddard walked into the office of the Action Crash warehouse on Railroad Avenue in Webster on Monday morning with a gun. According to a company statement, the facility manager and a saleswoman were shot and taken to a local hospital. One of the shooting victims died, but officials would not offer any other details.

Goddard is the estranged boyfriend of the saleswoman, the company said.

Goddard's sport utility vehicle, a 1999 Ford Expedition, was found abandoned on Cherry Street in Spencer shortly after 10 a.m., officials said.

The Worcester County District Attorney, state police and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are involved in the investigation.

Who knew? Gun free workplaces are not free from violence committed with firearms. What they are free of is a dependable way to repel these attacks.

Any bets the 'suspect' had nothing like a license to so much as touch a firearm?

It is so much worse. A reporter on the news tonight reported the victim broke off the relationship with the shooter because she found out he was a level 3 sex offender. A relative of the victim interviewed later on the news said the victim broke off the relationship because one of her boys was molested.

If that is true never mind that he was not a lawfully licensed gun owner; what the .... is the the scumbag doing on the streets?! No restraining order. Why didn't she get the law involved? Something weird about that. And now 5 kids without a mother; none are the shooters, hopefully their father(s) will step up and be more then just sperm donors.

And notice how QUIET the story is... Since the media can't blame the guns without exposing the sad state of affairs that truly exists, they just pretend it didn't happen....

If it bleeds it leads -- unless it doesn't fit the narrative.

This hit close to home...

They caught the guy in the woods behind my house. The SP had set up roadblocks so you couldn't get near. My son was in lock-down at his school because they couldn't run busses with this guy loose.

My wife was flipping out because our daughter gets dropped off from school and is home alone for approx 15 min until my wife gets home. Without knowing all the details, there was a possibility that my daughter was home with this guy in the woods. Fortunately my wife got a call from the woman who does drop off - my daughter was still with her because she wasn't allowed thru the road block to drop her off.

One neighbor called home and told his wife to lock herself and her son in the basement until he could get them. He was let by the roadblock and escorted to his house by the SP so that he could get his wife and son away from the area.

Another neighbor (whom I shoot with regularly) called me on my cellphone and told me he could hear the police negotiating with the guy over their bullhorns. He was already home from work, sitting in his living room with his buddies Smith, Wesson, and Remington. It's a good thing he didn't have to get his friends involved; it's too bad the police didn't have to use terminal, I mean reasonable, force to subdue this guy.

This episode has hit on a few levels. First, never assume it can't happen here. Living in a town of 2500 you think bad things happen elsewhere. While that is statistically true, there is that small fraction of a percent that you need to think about. This has not been a problem for me. Since I have had my house broken into before (different town) I've thought about SHTF a bit more than some others around me.

Second, when you need a gun, you need it now. While I won't publicly discuss what/where/how I store my guns (except to say that I comply with applicable laws), lets just say that my wife and I have disagreed on how available my guns are. This incident has made me consider much more clearly which guns I'd want to have handy and just how handy I'd want them. Let's just say that I'm not where I want to be yet.

Both of these points are obvious to some of you who have BTDT or trained for the possibility. Having had a house broken into, I've acknowledged the possibilities. But I have been playing the odds, perhaps more than I should. My wife is even more unfamiliar with these concepts and lives much closer to the realm of denial. This incident will provide some food for thought and perhaps a slight belief modification on her part. Every little bit helps. After all, she did agree to get a 4-legged alarm system after years of saying no.

Inch by inch, tragedy by tragedy...

We had two helicopters floating over the GOAL building for over an hour. Seeing this...Nancy and I loaded two Daisy Red Ryders to capacity and hunkered behind the sandbags!

Those were Class 3 Daisies weren't they? You were plenty safe. [smile]

That's ALL you had?!

How embarrassing........ [wink]

Scumbag

He was a level 3 sex offender so he should not have had a gun of any sort.[thinking]
******
Ch.4 did a story on the beanbag rounds the cops used to subdue him. To bad they didn`t just kill him. Now the taxpayers have to foot the bill for his trial and life of incarceration.
Another example of the failure of gun control.
