Old S&W model 60 and +P ammo

Does anyone know or have experience with using .38 Spl +P ammo in an older model 60 that only says .38 Spl. on it? They are all steel and I think at least most were made before +P was common. Just want to know if they can handle it.

Maybe you could call S&W tech support? They'd set you straight in a NY minute.

Just called and was told that the model I was questioning with a serial number R86xxx can NOT use +P ammo. Not sure what the cut off is but he did say it depends on when it was made, I did not go any deeper then that.
