I will be heading up to Maine this weekend and want to just run a few things by some of you who are more familiar with the laws.

As far as I understand open carry is legal for non-residents, but would it be considered open carry or concealed if I was wearing a zipper sweatshirt or say northface fleece over my OWB holster unzipped?

From what I understand when traveling in a vehicle the gun has to be unloaded (no round in the chamber), and no magazine in the gun, is this correct?

Also could anyone point me out to the section of Maine law which covers non resident open carry? I literally spent an hour searching and reading through the laws but found absolutely nothing about open carry for non-residents. It would be nice to have this printed out and in my back pocket in case I get hassled by an LEO.

Edit: Just one more thing, will I be hassled open carrying in Maine? I'll be in Sorrento if that is any consolation.

Appreciate the help.

If your jacket is OVER your holster, it would then be over your pistol as well (concealing it) ?

Would it not ? [thinking]

Yuppified areas or Maine have been infected with liberal panty-wetting girly men and pissed off hirsute women. Once can identify these areas by the abundance of BMW's, Sabbs, Volvo's and bicycle cops wearing spandex.

Drive west, or north until you see folks waving. They might not be friendly because they'll be swatting black flies and will not care if you are open carrying.

I figured just as much Twigg, look's like I will be getting my non-resident CCW for Maine as well as NH so next time I visit or drive through I wont need to worry about all this red tape. Until then I guess I will just have to freeze my balls off with no jacket or sweatshirt so I can legally open carry.

It might be worth open carrying just to see the reaction I get out of all the liberal yuppies. [smile]

If you travel up to Maine from time to time, you could look into getting a Maine Non Res. LTC.

That's what I did = no worries once you have that.

Oh please go ahead and do that ---- we need the politicians to have another reason to propose more legislation.

Open carry means open carry. Do not try and play with the words and you will not get in trouble. If it cannot be seen because your Northface fleece is over your holster it cannot be seen and therefore you are no longer open carrying.

Yes

You folks from away need to understand something about ME gun laws. I understand that from where you come from this is hard to believe so you tend to not believe it and ask questions like this one. The reason you could not find the non-resident section of our gun laws is because it does not exist. Residents and Non residents have the same rights in ME. When you come to ME, the same laws apply to you and they do to me. Open Carry means that. It better be in a holster and not covered by your unzipped fleece. No loaded guns in cars. No guns in public primary and secondary schools. No post offices. No court houses. No bars that are posted. No capitol building or its grounds. That is it. Not much more to know.

Some parts of ME have gone liberal. It will not be against the law to OC. But be prepared to be asked if you are in one of those parts of the state. I do not open carry and I never seen a person OC outside of hunting.
