A New Jersey Institute of Technology fraternity brother was fatally shot at the school's Tau Kappa Epsilon house during a robbery Monday morning, authorities said.

Joseph Micalizzi, 23, lived in the frat house with his chapter brothers near the Newark campus, according to the school. He was shot around 3:30 a.m. and died at University Hospital.

In a gun-free zone in a strict gun control state. How could this have happened?[rolleyes]

I know your response is sarcastic, but the sheer volume of violence in Newark (especially gun, although they have kinds) is staggering. I did a month-long rotation in trauma surgery there. Guys come in all shot up on Monday morning at 10am. I remember thinking, "what the hell are you doing at 10am on a Monday to get shot? And aren't you guys tired from shooting each other all weekend? Don't you take a day off???"

They probably see it as the cost of doing business. I'm sure arrogance and territory play a role. It's definitely no excuse for creating misery, but it's similar to lions and hyenas in the wild. They'll try to do each other in at every chance.
