Attorney General Sends “Cease and Desist” Letters Warning “Ghost Gun” Makers to Stop Advertising, Selling in NJ

Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal today sent “cease and desist” letters to “ghost gun” manufacturers throughout the United States, ordering them to stop advertising and selling partially-built firearms – including assault weapons – in New Jersey.

Officials say each of these companies sell nearly-complete firearms, often with the parts needed to finish them, and even train their buyers on how to complete these weapons. These companies call their products “ghost guns” because these firearms have never been registered and do not have serial numbers.

In fact, these manufacturers have even been explicitly advertising “unregistered and unserialized builds” of assault rifles to New Jersey consumers via their websites.

“These weapons are illegal in our state. Your actions violate the laws of New Jersey and, if you do not stop these activities within 15 days, I will bring legal action against your company,” Attorney General Grewal warns in the letter.

This is so much bullshit. Federal law already states that you can't sell an unserialized receiver. They're sending this letter to companies that manufacture 80% lowers, and some of them are now stating that they're not going to do business in New Jersey.

The previous statement isn't hypothetical or guessing - I got an email from a company that I've done business with, stating exactly that; here's part of the email:

We here at 80-Lower.com and Tactical Gear Heads feel a patriotic duty to offer solutions to gun ownership even as the 2nd Amendment comes under assault. While state governments like California try to infringe on that ownership with legislation, we have done our best to offer ways to stay legal in the age of 2A Legal Madness.

Sadly, it is not just the west coast that we have to worry about. The latest state that is acting against those who build their own guns and those that sell gun parts, is New Jersey. New Jersey's Attorney General recently demanded that companies stop marketing and selling untraceable weapons, or “ghost guns” to New Jersey. Therefore, we are not allowing advertising or sales of any of our items to the state of New Jersey.

EDIT - here's the link to the actual letter:

I probably know the answer because it is NJ, but does that state make it illegal to manufacture your own gun even if you follow whatever other stupid laws they have about the gun once you make it?

I want to start marketing these zero percent assault style lower/upper/middle receivers in NJ. Totally untraceable! Complete gangsta ninja style that could be finished with some simple tools.

He's demanding that manufacturers stop advertising their products to NJ residents?
LOL... how does that work?
Reminds me of legislators that wanted to ban online porn in their sates/communities.
How did that work out?

What he really should do is ask for legislation, or demand content providers in NJ to blacklist, block the companies
he has a hair across his ass about.
See how that works out too.
The courts will love him dearly.

Ah, the original assault weapon. Does it come with a pointy stick?

Why do they even call them ghost guns in their advertising ? Just to troll the grabbers ?

"Ghost Gun" are big time trigger words for moonbats. I know this as one of my moonbat relatives was ranting about them. The moonbats don't really know what they are but they sound scary as hell. A ghost gun could shoot you with ghost boolits.

I just bought a polymer80 glock frame as my own little f*k you after I read this letter last week. Basically, nj forbids anyone to manufacture a weapon in the state without a manufacturers license. So what you do is drive over to PA or DE where you don't need a license, do whatever you need to do to finish the frame, and then just drive back over to nj. Pretty simple.

If you read the letter from the AG of NJ it's infuriating in its absolute ignorance and stupidity. Manufacturers do not manufacture "GHOST GUNS". It's against federal law for firearm manufacturers to sell un-serialized receivers. An 80% lower is NOT a firearm. A Poly80 is NOT a firearm.

They just had another shooting in NJ last week at an open air Art Festival. Gang related, where one of the shooters was a previously convicted felon, unable to legally posses a firearm in NJ. 22 people shot.

But let's pass some more laws...

Well, you'll have to label it like -80% or something. 0% is already taken:

80% Arms:0% Billet AR-15 Lower Receiver

Seems to me that metal suppliers should stop selling aluminum to anyone in the state of NJ, including the government. See how fast this bullshit stops then.

It seems to me that is more than 0%. I would call ore still in the ground 0% lowers. If you have it all nicely shaped into a rectangle, you are most of the way there. We need to ban all metal that has already been mined and processed.

I heard ghost guns can evade TSA.

I'm sure Bilra will be here soon to educate us and give us a good definition of a ghost gun

Well of course they can. Ghost guns are ethereal.... They don't exist in our normal 3D space and can't be detected by our usual methods. You need to call Ghost Hunters or some other guys with special equipment.
