Good question as I have about 200 pieces of new 30-06 Rem brass that I am going to reload
in the very near future. I was going to check the brass with my calipers and case gauge
before I make the sizing decision. If it didn't smell right I was going to size and trim.

I always resize new brass, so I know for sure I am starting with a consistent component...

With rifle brass, I would at the least check that they are all sized correctly (With an RCBS Mic or some such gage), and then I would neck size them to iron out any dents.

I always size new pistol brass. I've never loaded new rifle brass.

Technically, brand new brass is manufactured to SAAMI specs, and can be loaded right out of the package.

That being said, I have always ran new brass through the sizing die just to be sure.

Some new brass case mouths are dented, so it is a good idea to neck size them prior to loading.

OK, I lied. I have loaded new rifle brass. I sized it first too.
