"FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs said the killer had no apparent connection to terror groups. Investigators said the gunman had a criminal record but did not divulge details." Now they are saying AR-type or AR- style rifle, so we will be the solution if we (law biding citizens ) are dis-armed.

Now they are saying AR-type or AR- style rifle.

Pretty much did an End-Around on the “No-Notoriety” campaign...don’t name the shooter but - NAME THE GUN!!! How f*cking stupid.

We need a new meme - “Don’t name the Gun.”

If it’s all about guns - Don’t Name the Gun.

“Silva has looked at five decades worth of New York Times’ coverage of shootings and finds that the events that get the most coverage are not representative of mass shootings, as a whole. “We find that a lot of coverage is dedicated to school shooters, and a lot is dedicated to ideologically motivated perpetrators,” Silva said. “However, with my research, we're finding that the reality is it's actually more often occurring in the workplace or in these open spaces, as was the case with the Gilroy shooting.”

How Mass Media Shapes Perceptions of Mass Shootings Yeah, Cape and Islands - top billing by the mainstream media, eh?

Shhh, stop making sense

Early reports are always suspect. We won’t know what really happened until the dust settles and they decide what and how to release for info.

Bob

You do realize that the chances of us actually knowing what actually happened in full detail for almost any serious issue is now pretty low? Unless some NES member happens to have an in with the real story?

Nope - didn’t need to know any of that ;-)

Signs of isolation - yes, by New England standards, where we all have nearby neighbors, running water and electricity in our homes. Will his past reveal rejection, bullying, exposure to violence? Another White Nationalist and Trump supporter? If not, the story will die quickly. Unless they lie. And they usually find a way to lie. If not a lie by omission, then by quoting others who fabricate lies.

The “good news” is that there doesn’t appear to be much about the killer yet that suggests he was “set off” by the media to break a killing-spree record. But too early - they just seized his stuff yesterday so he might have scrapbooks and manifestos...that’s the sh*t the media are waiting for - the people have a right to know!

An “AR-style” rifle with 30rd magazines is a great weapon - it couldn’t be a great defensive weapon if it wasn’t a great offensive weapon too. But it’s not about the gun.

DON’T NAME THE MAN
DON’T NAME THE GUN
DON’T NAME THE POLITICS OR IDEOLOGY
DON’T MAKE THE NEXT KILLER

No - I’m not yelling at you/us/me.

I know we’re examining the liberal/leftie bias here, so we look for what we know will be coming at us soon, true or false - that’s different than the aims of gun control advocates and the media.

This situation right shows exactly why this country can't prevent only prepare for mass shootings. This guy started his rampage on 2 state troopers. So when anti's whine about moar gun laws it defeats their narrative. Even the police can't contain a mass shooter because mass shooters have the one thing no man can stop, the element of surprise. So instead of prevent, which is impossible, the only way is to prepare. The best we all can

Odessa Gunman, Didn't Pass Gun Background Check: Texas Governor
The 36-year-old gunman opened fire, killing seven people and injuring nearly 20 more after being pulled over for a traffic violation on Saturday.

Updated 09.02.19 5:12PM ET / Published 09.01.19 3:37PM ET

ODESSA, Texas—The gunman who killed seven people and injured roughly 20 others during a 20-mile trail of carnage across West Texas previously failed a background check to purchase a gun, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said.

In a tweet Monday, Abbott said wrote that Ator not only had “a criminal history...he also previously failed a gun purchase background check in Texas...& he didn’t go thru a background check for the gun he used in Odessa. We must keep guns out of criminals’ hands.”

Ator, who was killed in a shootout with police, has an arrest record that includes a 2001 bust on misdemeanor charges of trespassing and resisting arrest and a 2014 charge of public intoxication. The disposition of those cases was not immediately clear.

I always thought that Journalism degrees should be BS rather than BA!

;)

:D

Frank

BA in Mass Communications w/ minors in Business (marketing) and Psychology. Westfield State 1988. I took a lot of journalism and broadcasting classes, too.

I did sales for a couple years out of college & evolved into more technical roles. I like my soul and prefer to keep it.

“The 36-year-old gunman who killed seven people and wounded 22 others in West Texas on Saturday purchased his AR-style rifle from a private seller, federal law enforcement sources confirmed to CBS News. The purchase allowed the gunman to evade a federal background check. Sources also say the gunman was previously denied a gun purchase because he was determined to be mentally unfit. The investigation into who sold the weapon is ongoing.”

That’s it - all illegal gun sales are now banned? Why did they wait so long!

“A senior law enforcement official briefed on the case and a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety said the shooter had a rifle that may have been a .223 AR-15 style weapon. Officials were also trying to determine whether the suspect had other weapons on him during the shooting or at his home.”

I’m sure it’s just terrible journalism - can senior law enforcement officials *not* know if a rifle is a AR15-style .223 or if the killer had other guns on him or at his home? Maybe they weren’t black - that can throw even a seasoned cop off...

Am seeing FB meme's claiming the perp was a an angry loony lefty; registered Democratic Socialist, Antifa and "Beto" supporter. Anyone seeing factual reporting of this?

Trying not to use up all my wife's tinfoil, but I find it strange that the MSM not calling him a conservative or a Trump supporter by now more than a little curious.

I haven't. I see many claiming that he was a two-time felon, which we know wasn't true (two misdemeanor arrests; one dismissed, the other deferred adjudication).

I spend more time correcting BS that gets spouted from my friends, than from my foes.

Texas gunman had been ruled 'mentally unfit' to buy firearms, used loophole on background check: report

The gunman who killed 7 and injured at least 22 others in a West Texas shooting rampage Labor Day weekend before he was shot and killed by police was federally banned from owning or buying firearms after a court previously ruled he was mentally unfit to do so, authorities said.

The suspected mass shooter, Seth Aaron Ator, 36, appeared to have taken advantage of a loophole in federal gun law by purchasing the AR-type assault rifle used in the rampage at a private person-to-person gun sale, effectively bypassing a background check. Under Texas state law, background checks are not required in private sales, according to the Texas Tribune.
