Mauser Bayonets

New to Mauser K94 bayonets. Appears they on fit on the rifle if you remove the cleaning rod? Where do you store the cleaning rod? Please keep it clean.

SG84/98 (Seitengeweher) bayonets for the K98k have a slot where the cleaning rod rests inside the bayonet handle when the bayonet is attached to the rifle. No need to remove the cleaning rod.

I was using a Yugo Bayonet so that explains it!
