Italian Carcano 6.5 ???

i am having a debate with a young gentelman in reguard to the bullet
diameter of the 6.5Carcano cartrige. i say that it should be .264 for
jacketed and .267-9 for Cast lead. now he says that it is .268 for
Jacketed.!! and you can only get them from Hornady. anyone else heard
that???? all the books iv seen say .264!!JKT. .267-9 Cast.

any comments?

If you reload 6.5 Carcano, use .264 bullets. All the data is for them, and I do believe it's the correct diameter anyways.

Using oversize lead bullets is a really old thing. It works.
 
The .268 bullet is correct. That is the diameter of the Italian military ammo. .264 is what Norma and others loaded it to post-war as that is what all the other 6.5 loads (6.5x55 Swede) and others are. However, loading with that bullet helped give the Carcano a poor reputation for accuracy. I recommend looking up Eichener's site on the Carcano. It has a ton of good info on the rifle as well as a repost of the thread from Dave (?) at Hornady who did the R&D on the new bullets and loads. Folks are getting much better accuracy out of the Hornady bullets then with the .264s.

for 40Yr,s that makes me old enough to forget things so keep me on the

Do what my father does, write it down. A note is far better than a good memory, unless you can't find the note.

I also have been handloading since the mid '60's. I probably started younger than you did, though. I was somewhere about 11 to 13 at the time.

I have had enough of the 6.5 Carc i sold it today and have unused Dies
and 100 Pcs of Virgin Brass For Sale on the Classified sight cheap if
