Keep in mind you will need a restricted weapons transport permit for each province you will be traveling through on your way. I've been to Ontario with handguns many times, but never to the other provinces. Furthermore, it's max 10 rounds handgun/5 long gun; no grandfathering. No .25ACP and no barrels under 105mm in length. Gotta keep them 4" 686's and Python snubbies out of the country.

The key term for a handgun is "restricted firearm".

Expect confused customs agents unless that agent had another competitor come through before you.
