NES member MAGG passed along a karma of his Fathers brass and other goodies.
So with some of stuff I found I decided to do a little commemorative reload .
With what I found going through the boxes lead me to believe MAGGs Father shot a good amount of 30-06,308 and 45acp. Along with a good amount of various rimmed rifles.
I will be shooting prone with sling with a sandbag supporting my arm.
The rifles
the ammo
I found a small stash of old M1ball bullets 173gr FMJBT
Lots of 30-06 and 308 brass . Along with 100 very nicely cast .310 170gn FN bullets.
All brass was full length resized and sized back to as close to SAMMI spec as possible or as close to factory HXP/LC and FGMM loaded ammuntion
First up: M72 match:
BULLET : 173gn FMJBT
Primer: 34
BRASS: once fired LC 1954 , i dont have any LC match brass
POWDER: LC match was loaded with "milspecs" 50 grains of IMR4895 to 2650fps 75ft from the muzzle THIS IS NOT MY LOAD ITS WHAT MIL SPEC CALLED FOR. Now im out of IMR 4895 and decided to go with H4895. I have tested both powders and I have found the results close in my rifles. I have no intention of trying to push these loads to 2650 . I have a known load that will get them to 2600 with no signs of over pressure and works well in my M1. I dont have enough time or bullets to work up a load to get near the velocity specs and I think with in 50fps or so is good enough for fun.
Cart. OAL 2.32"
Vel. 2600fps
Rifle for testing: 1903a4 clone.
2ND : M118LR retro to the 173gn M1ball projectile
Bullet: 173gn fmjbt
Case : Remington 308
Powder: Mil spec shows WC846 and IMR 4895 with a velocity
Primer : cci 34
of 2550fps. I already have a 175 grain load touching off jugs over 2500fps so im going to start there with H4895.
Rifle for testing, undecided either a M1 garand in 308 or a M1a.
3rd load: 30-06 200 yard target load , cast bullet.
Bullet: 170gn FN cast, gas checked.
Case : LC54
Powder: Alliant 2400
Bullet 170gn cast FN
Primer: cci 34
Vel. 1600fps
Rifle : 1903a3
i will be adding pictures later.
