The House has voted to scrap an Obama administration regulation extending background checks for disabled Social Security recipients mentally incapable of managing their own affairs.


The vote to repeal the regulation is 235-180.

The vote is part of an effort to repeal a handful of regulations issued in President Barack Obama's final months and represents the first steps toward strengthening gun ownership under President Donald Trump.

The background checks rule established the criteria the Social Security Administration will follow when forwarding names for the criminal background check system.

Those fitting the criteria have a mental disorder so severe that they cannot work and need a representative to manage their benefits. The administration projected that the regulation would affect about 75,000 beneficiaries.

Gun rights groups and advocates for the disabled supported the repeal effort.

It's the strangest thing isn't it? People are going absolutely apey every time he does something he said he was going to do. It's not like he didn't warn them, but I dont' think people are used to a politician keeping their word. Most don't even try.

I totally agree about repealing Ex President Obama's ("Ex" is the best part of his title) EO regarding this. But Rob, I have to also add it is not only the elderly, but even just applying for SSDI can get you on their reporting list to the NCIS and you might not even know you are on the bad side of this EO until you try to purchase a firearm or go to renew your license. Very bad EO all around. Just a punishment and further insult from Ex President Obama. Oh, and he got this EO idea from our Ex Vice President Biden.

Thank you President Trump for getting rid of this EO within two weeks of becoming POTUS. Another promise kept. Thank you Thank you.
