Well, we went antiquing in our usual spots. Almost everything I saw last time was still there. Saw some nice small things, but obviously we’re being tight with the :emoji_dollar: .
I did make an offer on a small pocket watch ($125) which I figured I could afford as I am completing the sale of the musket tomorrow. Warranted 20 year case, popular Art Deco design, unusual Octagonal case. I collect and wear a pocket watch daily. Now that I’m retired, I use the small, lighter size 12.
1927, 17 jewel (ruby; 21 was railroad grade). Real little jewel chips were used in friction points to prevent wear. The more jewels, the better the watch (7, 11, 15, 17, 19, and 21); I’ve heard of 24 I think. Illinois Watch Company Was founded in Springfield Illinois in 1869 - town of Lincoln’s residence - and one of the founders was Lincoln’s former law partner John Stuart. Actually Illinois Watch was acquired by Hamilton Watch Company that year (1927), and continued to make watches until 1932 (we all know what was going on then).
Coin on my fob is a Roman denarius from 115BC.
