I came across a DOU 44 k98 in a shop.

It has a laminated stock, all numbers matching, and very nice blueing. The blueing is really, really, nice. No import marks. It has a 3 digit serial number.

I did not buy it, yet. I will probably grab it next time I am there if it is still there. He does not honor C&R licenses, and I didn't have the time to fill out all of the paperwork.

It was marked $399.

How much do DOU 44's in very nice shape typically sell for?

If it is russian capture, it is probably at least $350. depending on condition. Russian capture usually has an X on the receiver and the swastikas are peened out of the waffenamts (i.e. small birds)

if it is really all matching (including the bolt) and is in good condition, I would say $399 is a steal. as I stated yesterday in another post. I sold a real POS recently for $349 on Gunbroker. nothing matched, bore was shot and you could barely make out the markings. it was advertised as such.

Majspud, would you agree? did you teach me well?

Agree; $400 is about the going rate for a RC. A good price for an honest bolt MM is $700, all matching starts over $1K.

I don't know why a mustang engine pic got attached, oh well.

I brought it over to another gun shop which my buddy owns, and he offered me $700 cash for it. I declined it. I like the rifle. The bore is absolutely pristine. I can't get the camera to produce a clear pic of it. The barrel band is also marked 131, couldn't get a recognizable pic of that either. My canon camera stinks.

From here, looks like an early import and matching to boot. You did well. U-block means that that the serial number 9999 had turned over 21 times, so this is in the range of 220,000th rifle out of the Brunn II plant in Czechoslovakia.

When do you think it was imported?

It lacks an import mark.

From the photo, it looked like a light stamping under the muzzle in front of the bayonet lug. If nothing there, all the better.
