FTF transfer question

Hello guys,

I tried searching but it's hard to narrow down to the exact question, and find the correct answer. I just received my LTC-A and I'm itching to buy some guns.
Anyway, I'm looking at buying a Smith and Wesson 6906 9mm from a private seller here in MA. Now this gun isn't on "the list", but my understanding is that it's still ok to buy, as I'm buying from an individual and not a dealer. And does the gun still have to have been in MA before the magic cutoff date in 1998? or is does that not matter also, due to it being a person-to-person sale?
Any help/info greatly appreciated. BTW, this is my first post, seems like a lot of knowledgeable folks around here

FTF, the list never comes into play. The list is only for dealers. As for not knowing if it was here prior to '98, doesn't matter, it's here and it's a private sale. The seller could have moved into the state after that date and brought it with him.
