Hey guys,
I feel like a tool for basically saying, "hey look at me" but I finally got it!!!
Stoneham PD +1
Applied on Jan 12, and got the call today. Would have felt like an ass after joining GOAL and NES to not get it! Though I believe both org's should be fully supported anyhow.
Now I just need join NRA and Harvard Sportsmen's Club. Ya I know Woburn would be closer to me, but a couple other drivers that I work with are switching in the spring to HSC. Plus, they have pretty much everything.
Anyways, it's my party and I'll cry if I want too.

Shower down praise on me in

as you lowered yourself down the the level of posting a "look at me, I got my LTC: ALP!!!" topic, under an unwritten rule of mutual understanding, it is your responsibility to now provide us with 1) make and model of your first "purchase" and 2) gloriously detailed, well lit pictures of said "purchase"

you have made a commitment to provide us with gun porn [smile]

Already done!!!
It's an unissued Detroit Police Department Glock 22 from Collectors Gallery in Stoneham. The serial ends in DPD and it has Detroit Police Department on the right side of the slide.
Sorry I don't have access to a fancy-shmancy digital camera, so no photos for now!

Picked up my license at 3pm, had the Glock by 4:45pm.

Way to give those rights a good workout right off the bat! Congrats and be careful out there.

Although, I think there may be a slight issue. [hmmm]

When the magazine is full with 10 rds (came with 2 10-rd), the magazine does not seem to want to seat. It will if you really "force" it in, but then when you chamber the first round, the slide gets caught 1/4 in before fully forward. All you have to do is push lightly on rear of slide and it goes forward, but this is not normal/something I'm gonna live with.

As far as the full magazine not seating like it should, I'm guessing that could be attributed to magazine catch that needs adjustment. Thoughts?

And the slide not fully engaging...I'm not quite sure. I haven't shot it, nor would I without a good cleaning first. Maybe it just needs a lube job...[thinking]

Yes I said lube job..but the only thing that will improve my spirits is the chinese food I'm about to get, some beers, and perhaps...said lj

You get a pass on bragging today my friend. I still remember the thrill of holding that laminated cheezey, oversized license in my hand feeling like I just won the lottery. Savor it, wallow in it and congratulations on buying a gun before the sun even set on your historic day. Well Done!!!!

Thank you very much!
I applied for my LTC to honor my living grandfather down in TN. When I got home with it, I gave him call. My aunt who lives within a mile from him, happened to stop by. She then called me to tell me how much it meant to him and how proud of me he was.

There's nothing like being able to honor him while I still have him around. [smile]

Mike, what kind of carrying rounds are you using? Some JHP bullets have issues with certain guns. I know my Colt won't take Gold Dots and it does exactly the same thing yours does.

Correct me if I'm wrong please, but that Glock is a 2nd generation (preban) and should have come with (2) 15 round magazines. You should inquire about this if you didn't get them with the gun! PM me if you need any more info.

I bought some white-box Winchester 165gr FMJ's that seemed to me to be of the semi-wadcutter breed. I honestly haven't been around ammo for 8-10 years. I actually expected the .40 s&w FMJ's to be of the cone shape variety.
I know I sound like a total noob, but I'm not. I just forget all the terminology. I was actually quite suprised to see those "sawed-off" FMJ's staring back at me when I opened the box to take a peek.
When I had only 9 in the mag, it fed fine.
* Note* that I never let the slide slam forward upon depressing the slide release. I know that I can, I just was taught not to, and out of respect for the gun, I don't.

Tomorrow I will be going to pick up some self-defense loads (no idea why I didn't grab them while I was there!) I guess I was too caught up with the fact that I was ACTUALLY buying a firearm in MA!

99.9999999% of the time, Glocks will eat anything you throw into it. It's rare to find one that is finicky with ammo.

All of the Glocks that I've had require effort to fully seat a full magazine. If you just lightly insert the magazine, it will not simply click into place. You have to have some force behind it. This is normal.

If you're not letting the slide "slam" forward upon depressing the slide release (or slide stop lever) then this means you are either 1) using your support hand, grabbing the slide and sling-shot'ing it into battery... or you're 2) using your support hand, pulling the slide back and then riding the slide forward slowly.

If you're sling-shot'ing it closed, and the slide isn't going into battery and is getting hung up where you say it is... this isn't normal. It's possible you could have found the one Glock in the world that is finicky with ammo. Or, something is broken or out of spec. I'd bring it to Jim at Four Seasons (their Glock armorer) and let him take a gander at it.

If you're riding the slide forward slowly... don't [smile] Almost every gun will get hung up just before going into full battery if you ride the slide forward.

Anyway... Congrats on your LTC ALP and your first firearm! [cheers]

I was assisting with my left hand to hold the slide, depress the slide release, let the slide move 1/8-1/4 in, then release forward. [thinking] Ok...so I won't do that anymore[wink]
When I say "force" the magazine in, I mean I can't just push it in and it seats.... I have to get a running start with this thing and slam my hand into the bottom of the magazine!
And when I try to pull the slide back, it catches about 1/4-1/2 in back. It "feels" like there is something interfering with the magazine and slide.
I've shot 4 different models of glocks, mini's-full size in my lifetime and am very familiar with them. This one doesn't feel normal.
I'm gonna head over to Jim at FS in 20 min.

Almost every semi-auto I've had requires a quick, firm push (a running start as you say) or a firm tap on the bottom to seat 100% This includes all my Sigs and my Walther. The only one that is pretty much effortless is my Colt.

I kinda merged my problems into the Glock Problem thread.
As always, I appreciate everybody's replies. It's good to hear that I'm not alone, and also nice to hear about successes with other firearms!
