Just two days ago we pointed out, in “Societal Oxymoron’s”, how ridiculous our current judicial system really is and the paradox of paying for the funerals of victims of homicide and not putting behind bars for good those who have demonstrated records of violence. Worse, we pointed out, our apathy in not demanding real justice equivalent to the pain and anguish inflicted upon the victim.

Today, we are greeted once again with another homicide. This time, a 13 year old boy with as far as we can tell thus far, from an upstanding, loving, caring family. The tool used, sadly was a firearm, most likely obtained by this criminal - illegally.

It’s at times like these that our grief and anger focus on the instrument used, rather than the (lack of) character of the individual who actually pulled the trigger. The blatant disregard for life demonstrated by this individual is appalling.

It’s at times like these, that we need to remind our fellow citizens of the Commonwealth that criminals do not obtain their firearms legally, so calling for more gun control that will only affect the law-abiding is yet another example of a “Societal Oxymoron”.

We are deeply touched and saddened by the loss of this young person’s life in Dorchester. We can only hope that the criminal responsible is caught and brought to justice, but this time not let back out with a light sentence to kill once again. We Sportsmen and Women feel very strongly about, “catching and releasing fish”, but this should not apply to violent criminals.

It’s time to stop the revolving door of justice and see that justice is, as sadly as this boy's death, permanently served.
