I am pretty sure you could never get your wife to agree to this - but - there was an article in the Sunday Boston Globe about how there are people here and there evaluating how our sewage systems work and how much water is wasted and polluted using the current systems we have.

One of the little snippets I thought was interesting was they talked about how human urine is pretty much sterile and it makes good fertilizer because it has phosphorous and some other minerals in it.

Tell the family to go out and pee on the plants - maybe they will grow better, and you will save some well water in the process.

They mentioned that there are actually designs out there for toilets that allow for separation of urine and feces waste so they can be processed separately.
