This is not a competition but I didn't see anyplace else it would fit.

We are having a defensive scenario shoot on saturday, July 12, at the Pomfret Rod & Gun Club in Pomfret, CT. We are about 1/2 hour south of Webster, Ma.

We intend to setup 2 or 3 scenarios and let the participants cycle through each scenario multiple times.

Directions can be found at our website: http://www.pomfretrgc.org/

Defensive Scenario Shoots

Saturday, July 12 10:00am – 1:00pm
Outdoor Pistol Range
Pomfret Rod & Gun

What can you do to prepare for a self defense situation? Target shooting is good practice but it really does not help prepare you for a situation we all hope never occurs. We intend to setup various defensive scenarios to give you a feel for what may happen if you ever have to use a weapon for self defense.

Each shoot will include 2 or 3 scenarios. These scenarios will include:

- drawing from a holster
- reloads during a string of fire
- both threat and non-threat targets in the same scenario
- targets behind partial cover
- strong and weak hand shooting
- use of cover
- clearing malfunctions
- using a shotgun for home defense (not included at the July 12 shoot)
- moving targets (i.e. advancing on you)
- other scenarios based on your suggestions

*There will be two or three scenarios setup per day. Future scenarios will be based on participants' suggestions.

These scenarios are not intended as formal instruction. They are intended to give you a new method of practice and to provide experience of shooting under stress in a controlled environment. Safety rules will be posted. Violators will be asked to leave. No handling of firearms outside of the designated “Safe Handling Area”.

This is not a competition. The scenarios will be timed and scored so you can see how you improve each time you run through the scenario. Scores will not be compared to other participants.

What you need:

- Your carry gun*
- holster (no shoulder or cross-draw holsters)
- spare magazines / speed-loaders
- ammo (100 rounds minimum)
- drinking water

* Gun may be either a carry gun or your home defense handgun

Cost: 5.00
Money will pay for targets and supplies. Any excess to the club. Open to the public.
