So I had a couple of free hours today and decided to take my new DPMS LR-308 down to the range to "break it in" I am sitting there firing one round at a time, cleaning the barrel with each shot when three guys come down to sight in their rifles. We got to talking and as it turned out, one of them had just completed basic and was scheduled to deploy to Iraq in about a month. Turns out that he knew all about my rifle and kindly took the time to show me how to break it down, clean it and all the "tricks of the trade" so to speak about potential problems I might encounter.
All I could say when I left was "be careful and thank you for your service" It was a real plesant experience, I hope he makes out OK, my prayers go out for him.
