CMP question

I don't think you can "join" the CMP.....to make a rifle purchase, you need to join a CMP afffiliated organization. Check the gun club you belong to, typically they have CMP affiliation. ( Nasuha Fish and Game does)..

i assume this is for ordering goodies from the CMP? you need to belong to a CMP Affiliated organization (which, by your sig line, you already do! (MVGC).)

If you happen to come down tonight, look me up (i'll be there a better part of the night). i'll see if i can dig up the form you need for the CMP.

Thanks guys. Can't make it tonight perhaps another time.

If you are a member of GOAL they will email you stating that you are a member in good standing and you can send this in
with your order.

This meets the affiilated club requirement.

All you need is a photocopy of a membership card from GOAL, CMP-affiliated club, etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you also need to get a certificate from a CMP sanctioned clinic that shows you were taught the basics of riflery, etc. I received this from a high power clinic I attended at the Gloucester gun club. For $30 you get to spend the day on the range learning the history/basics of military rifles and you get to shoot a three position "match" either with an AR-15 or an M-1 Garand. It was an awesome take, so much so that I've done it twice!

My impression is that this has not been the requirement for some time, but was once.

It appears you are right. From the CMP website regarding Eligibility Requirements:

Marksmanship or other Firearms Related Activity:
You must provide proof of participation in a marksmanship related activity or otherwise show familiarity with the safe handling of firearms and range procedures. Your marksmanship related activity does not have to be with highpower rifles; it can be with smallbore rifles, pistols, air guns or shotguns. Proof of marksmanship participation can be provided by documenting any of the following:

- Current or past military service.
- Current or past law enforcement service
- Participation in a rifle, pistol, air gun or shotgun competition (provide copy of results bulletin).
- Completion of a marksmanship clinic that included live fire training (provide a copy of the certificate of completion or a statement from the instructor).
- Distinguished, Instructor, or Coach status.
- Concealed Carry License.
- Firearms Owner Identification Cards that included live fire training.
- FFL or C&R license.
- Completion of a Hunter Safety Course that included live fire training.
- Certification from range or club official or law enforcement officer witnessing shooting activity. A form for use in completing and certifying your range firing can be downloaded from the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/forms/marksmanship.pdf

That was a requirement many years ago. Some years ago (guess would be within last 10 years) that changed drastically as you pointed out above.
