CMP Garand

I fired one 15 years ago and just read the M1A thread so think I will order one from the CMP. Can these be scoped? Any Garand gunsmiths in the N.E. MA area? Any other advise any one wants to offer?

Unless you want to go with a scout scope set up, scoping the Garand is difficult. The scope has to be offset to allow for loading the rifle with the en bloc clips.

They can be scoped but like he said, you either have to go scout style or get one of the M1D mounts, the installation of which is a gunsmith job IIRC.

The M1 is a really poor choice, if you're going to scope it. It can be done, if you're stubborn. The M1A is a better choice for a scoped rifle.

In about every other way than optics, the M1 is a great rifle.
