A Melrose Park man was ordered held on bail today after he and another man were shot by an elderly homeowner as they tried to break into the man's Ukrainian Village home, officials said.

[Frank] Obrachta, of the 1400 block of North 16th Avenue, Melrose Park, was charged with felony murder [and home invasion] after Franko Martinelli, 32, of the 2200 block of West Erie Street died after being shot by the homeowner.

Obrachta was convicted in 1992 for unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and sentenced to six years in prison; a 1985 conviction for armed robbery and aggravated battery for which he received seven years in prison; and a 1985 burglary conviction out of Lake County where he was sentenced to five years in state prison, Conklin said.

Don't eff with the old guys...

Kind of makes you wonder how he would have saved himself had he had to: 1. Find his bifocals 2. undo the trigger lock 3. load the gun.

Why is it that two years after Heller we in Mass still have to do 1,2,3?
