After hearing about the guy getting beheaded on the bus in canada I was curious as to exactly what the laws were in canada regarding firearm posession. Me and the family are going to americas wooly hat for a family reunion. I was real surprised as to how restrictive they are with guns and the like. Mace/pepper spray is completly illegal except for some bear repellant.
Here's a couple links. This might not be exactly up to date information, but it's a good reference compiled by the Canandian National Firearms Association.

Here's a list of banned gear.

Anything that has a "military appearance" is banned, so no assault rifles.
Long guns can't have a magazine higher than 5 round capacity and handguns "that are commonly found in canada" can't have more than 10 round mags. "not commonly found" no more than 5 rounds.
Also, Canada will allow for non-citizens to bring guns into the country for hunting. You just need to do some preparation.
