Just got back last night from Ohio. I don't mind the 14-1/2 hour ride out there, but the ride back sucks.
Weather was very nice for the days I was there: sunny and 70's for the most part. 10-20 degrees cooler and a whole lot drier than it usually is.

All in all, an EXCELLENT performance by New England shooters at the Nationals this year!

The President's 100:
Those placing in the top 100 and receiving medals: Dan S. of New Hampshire, and get this: Verne C., Mikey P., Duane B., and Robby G., ALL from the Reading Rifle Club! That is a very impressive accomplishment!

The National Trophy Individual (NTI or, the "Big Leg Match"):
Points were earned by Dan S., Robby G., and as mentioned in the other thread, Jason S. (NES's JasonS)
NES's Jasper (Jeff H.) put up a rock-hard 489-12. I was glad to be there and score his 600.

The Hearst Doubles Match:
Jeff H. and Mikey P. teamed up this year and came in 9th overall which is tough to do in a field loaded with AMU, All-Guard, and Reserve teams.

Mikey P. and Jeff H. tore it up this week in every match they shot.
Former New Hampshire resident Jeff Lindbloom isn't human anymore. He's a shooting machine.

The New England shooter I was most impressed with this year was Robby G. of Reading, MA.
His scores go something like this:
P100 287-4
NTI 473-9
Hearst 289-9

Oh, and he did it with an M14.

I didn't include scores from the "professional" military shooters from New England, namely Trickett, Dunphy, Elsenbooss, Friend, Cogshall, etc.. As usual, they were top-notch.

Congratulations to all who earned points and medaled!

Excellent summary Pat! Robby G. has been doing great, and I talked to a couple veteran shooters who say they don't remember ever seeing anyone earn leg points with a .30 cal rifle at Reading (which he did the week before Perry). You missed one other bit of information in your write-up, though. How did you fare? I hope to get back out to Perry next summer.

I was hoping to get out of this thread without mentioning my performance.[thinking]

I was out there this week working at the nuke plant right down the road...I drove by each day and was jealous of the fun everyone was having. I definitely noticed multiple participants in the hotel I was staying at too.

Robbie is my hero. I can't even imagine shooting that 14 like he does.

This is my first year at Camp Perry and I am having a great time. Or at least until today when one of our teammates go shot in the hand in the pits. It was his shooting hand too.

Seriously? We need more info on how that happened.

From what I hear he had his hand on the carrier standing by to pull the target and caught a ricochet. Seven stitches. I cleaned the 600 stage so it wasn't mine.

A ricochet off of what? I thought it was all wood and cardboard above the safety berm.

Robbie may be your hero, but you are mine.[grin]

Well, they where giving the command targets down when it happened. Oh, no stitches yet. transferring him to Toledo to see a specialist before they do anything. Some broken bones in his hand. Of course it's the rattle battle that they were shooting and I can only imagine how is really possible.

I doubt they will ever be able to tell if it was a ricochet or a flaw in the pits. Last I talked to him, he said that he say a space in the railroad ties in the pits. I am sure they will be looking into it very close.

The really scary part was the lack of medical supplies in the pits to treat his injury and slow response to get the ambulance to the pits.

Too bad he won't be at the ceremony to get his 1st time president 100.

We pulled for one of the Garand teams and there was plenty of dirt flying. A separated jacket ended up in the bottom of one of the targets. I think the berm needs to be about a foot higher.

Seven stitches was the rumor going around. As we all know, everything said in the pits is true. (I heard that in the pits.)

I only got off 17 shots at 600 (case head separation my first shot,) but I got 18 hits. Verne thinks he put one on my target.

Isn't there a big sale of gun stuff/components/parts at camp perry? Im curious as to how that was this year. I have heard stories in the past of guys coming home with their suspensions a foot lower than when they arrived.

There wasn't nearly as much stuff as there was in previous years, but there was still some good stuff. I picked up another year's supply of powder and some little stuff. Might buy a couple uppers before I head out in the morning.

Yeah, it was ricochets. The target was peppered with key holes. And dirt. He just got back from the Er and the bullet key holed the fatty muscle tissue of his right thumb. Missed the important stuff and only broke one bone. Took five stitches and a splint. Lucky that's all that happened. He Won't be shooting for a while.

They had a great price in AR10s before CMP week started and then it jump 400 the second day. I didn't see anything fantasy ice for prices but there is plenty of parts and pieces available.

You left a pretty hard hitting Military team off that list. [grin]

Congrats to all New England shooters!

Julia Watson and Eric Swearingen made us Marines proud. Julia pretty much cleaned house at the award ceremony.

Also Verne from MA made the junior national team and went on stage. Rumor is that the AMU is looking at him. Great kid and a great shooter. Another one of our juniors went up to get pinned. Great group of kids this year.

Still have a couple big matches coming up back home, are we going to see the infamous Derek this year?

Working on getting another pistol built, need to finish legging out with the pistol. Next leg match will be a pistol one.

I was the guy in the pits screaming at them for a First Aid kid, and then upon trying to get the gauze out, finding a little 1"x1" square and was like "WHAT THE **** DO I DO WITH THIS?!"

What a cluster**** that was. I have feeling the NTIT will be very different next year.

I am really glad he was ok.

I'm all out of rifle legs this year and was thinking about shooting that pistol leg up in Scarborough.

In Scarborough, you can shoot our Service Rifle Championship Saturday the 7th and the Pistol EIC Sunday. Not sure if you get a lobster unless you shoot pistol the full 2 days.

And Robby continues to drive that M14 like a champ! He came in 4th overall in the Springfield M1A Match.

One thing about that match that I think is complete bullshit is the fact that you are not eligible for any awards unless you shoot an actual Springfield M1A. No Fulton's, LRB's, Smith's, etc. need show up.
