CA - Jeweler Shoots Hammer Wielding Robber

Some would-be burglars got an unwelcome surprise Friday when a Lafayette jeweler fired shots at them during a store invasion, the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office said.

One of the suspects may have been wounded during the incident in the 3500 block of Mt. Diablo Boulevard, sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

The jeweler, whose name was withheld by officials, was in the back of his store when two men with hammers entered about 1:45 p.m. and began smashing display cases, Lee said.....
