CA - Elderly Homeowner Shoots, Kills Would-Be Intruder

An elderly man shot and killed a burglar trying to get inside his home in Colton, police said.

Richard Contreras, 79, fatally shot Fidel Escanuelas, 37, on Thursday as he tried to climb through a bedroom window.

A police news release says Contreras saw a car back into the driveway of his house, heard a noise in a bedroom, found Escanuelas climbing through a window and shot him once in the shoulder with a handgun.

Escanuelas died at the scene.....
