They've been out of production for 35+ years but... depending on the version, they can be modernized and made more useable (in a completely reversible fashion). Probably not coming back.

The old BAR-10 and M.308s were nice too but the patents are back in the hands of RRA now. Bolts at least are compatible if you have one of the soft ones. There is, however, another 308 black rifle design which may have carried over under the Bushmaster name... it never made it to production sadly. If the IP is there, I could see it being built, especially since the "no fee" Bushmaster AR10-spec .308s were only a production option under the Freedom Group umbrella.

Well, after reading here that it’s Franklin Armory who’s resuscitating Bushy, I think I’ll pass. They’re way too focused on coming up with shenanigans like that smooth bore AR. Although I wonder how long it will take them to ruin Bushmaster for good.
I hadn't heard about that one.
What would be the reason for a smooth bore ?
