Mexico's drug war weapons mostly U.S.-made

The War Next Door: Most of the thousands of weapons fueling Mexico's brutally violent drug war are made in the U.S.A. NBC's Mark Potter reports.

ATF: Majority of firearms in Mexico come from U.S.

William McMahon from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives details the preferred weapons used by Mexico drug cartel members and explains how most of them are bought in the U.S.

Obama dis-information act begins... again.

They're bought in the US by the US government, then sent to the Mexican military or police, who then turn them over to the cartels that pull their strings. Of course that's only the ones that aren't provided by Venezuela, Cuba and former military and "security" people from the old Soviet block.

If you look at the types of guns supposedly being smuggled from the U.S, you'll see that many of those same guns are also used by the Mexican military and police. How's THAT for coincidence.[thinking]

Mexico is a backwards country run by the cartels. It's chief export is drugs. I say let them kill eachother. Deploy 20K N.G. to the border, lock it down, give the mexicans all the ammo they want, sit back, and watch the crazy bastards make their streets run red until there isn't any left. Problem solved, plus you could probably get some decent revenue from a reality television series "Mexico: ROFLZomgjklol" It's catchy right?

isnt there another thread talking about this already?

doesnt mean they were bought in U.S stores or sold to them by U.S citizens

you can get an AK in Africa. yeah the AK is Russian, but the Russians didnt sell it to you.

if they tell the same story enough, it becomes true.
lol

So where the heck is the NRA on tv refuting these "facts". When you have FOX news parading out shots of confiscated "US bought" guns....eventually the public will believe this b.s. If it is the mexican military buying the guns and slipping them to the drug dealers...that should be a relatively easy thing to prove...all we need is to see one bill of lading with a confiscated serial number on it!

We pay a lot to the NRA...what ARE we getting for it?

anyone seen Border Wars on Nat Geo...interesting show...on a few episodes it shows how people smuggle in weapons to mexico, i remember one episdoe, they pulled over a SUV and went through it and found i think 2 or 3 "brand new" AKs, multiple Mags and some bayonets....i just wish people would smuggle them to this state hahahaha. o wait they do but they fall into the hands of the gangs in Lynn, Lawrence and Lowell hahaha

Nice "I AM THE NRA" hats made in China?

Regarding the thread title, one can't help but wonder how things would be different if the average Mexican citizen was armed, instead of the interchangeable army/cartel only. This is yet another example of the inevitable end of a disarmed society.

Maybe putting a few hundred crates of surplus rifles (since Der Fuhrer and his rival the Sec doesn't think we should have them) out into the hands of the citizenry so they can make their own war against their vile controlling element is something the US should consider.

i watched that show 4 times, and then i stopped. It was BS. They cought a bunch of dudes, and then the show ended, and it said: person 1: waiting for U.S citizenship, Person 2: applied for asylum 6 montsh ago, hes been living here the entire time...

so, they caught them, and then helped them stay. WTF??? isnt their job to handcuff them and get them kicked out. ILLEGAL????? if we get caught with Illegal guns they wont help us out and let us apply for a gun license to make them legal. we go straight to jail. This is BS. another stupid reality show. How long will it be till they throw a girl in the show? (like ice road truckers and Ax men).

My guess on why the NRA is not talking: When you jump at them, you make it look like they are right (or might be right), also you bring a lot more attention to the issue. My guess is that the NRA is letting it die. They fight where it matters. In congress.

although there is one thing that bothers me about the NRA. I just renewed my membership 4 months ago, and they are sending me letter to renew again. They have been sending me letters for a month and a half now. WTF? they spend so much money in outgoing mail.

I couldn't agree more with the NRA spending money trying to recruit the choir part. I get similar letters of renewal.

However, on XM Sirius Patriot (also available for download as a podcast, 'Cam and company'), the NRA has been talking about the boarder for a long time now. The socialist news stations aren't just going to randomly give the evil right wing nuts the platform randomly. It would have to be completely self-serving in a way that could only be twisted to benefit their message.

There's also the matter of a gun they the NatGeo show held up claiming to be American made that you could clearly make out "Made in China by Norinco" on the receiver...

China's been knocking off guns from around the world and selling them... Someone had a link to a nice looking MP5 clone from somewhere in SE asia (made in China sold elsewhere).

So, even excluding our own government arming the cartels through straw sales to the Mexican government, you also have a problem of "counterfeit" guns coming from China it would seem...

It did indeed look like an M60, but there it was 11 minutes in I believe, look for yourself - "Made in China by Norinco"...

The real shame here is that we continue to expand a drug policy that is killing people by the thousands and now threatening the integrity of our border.
