This is probably a stupid question, but I've recently gotten interested in the Walther P99 compact in 9mm.

Are the P99 models at all available in MA? When I've looked around seems like they don't exist.
Also, will the PPQ or CCP models ever be MA compliant or available in our fine socialist state?

Seems the PPS is available but I'm less interested in it.

Thx peeps. I figure some of you Walther fans would know the answers.

P99/C are MA compliant and on the approved firearm roster. You can also look for SW99 - a version of Walther made by Smith and Wesson. Neither the PPQ nor the CCP are on the roster. This just means you have to look harder.

Bought my wife a CCP. It will be a nice addition to the list in MA.
It is the only subcompact 9mm with a slide spring that is similar in spring rate to full size 9mm.
My wife has arthritis in hard wrists and elbows so slide rack in her first concern. Her full size is a VP9 which is probably among the easiest to rack of 9mm in that size class.
Hopefully y'all don't have to wait long for the CCP to make the list.

The P99's can definitely be found in MA, they just aren't all over the place. Its quite a nice pistol, actually. One of the best striker fired triggers you will find. Reliable as well.

I don't think Walther submits guns to the list, since they parted with S&W.

They are available, but Walther doesn't seem to make a lot of P99/C any more. My fav polymer pistol and I have the full and compact sizes with A/S trigger and a Q/A in full size.

You can. Just needs be the one with the 10 round mags or the seller or your FFL needs to pull the high (er.....standard) capacity mags (some but not all FFL's will do this so ask ahead). Only the "AS" variant is on the list, by the way.

It's credible/plausible that some OEM 16-rd Walther marked magazines are pre-ban, but finding them can be hard. The AS trigger is preferred by most. Decocking the QA trigger will render the gun not able to fire when a round in the chamber: while not likely, some consider it a no-no feature for a CCW piece.

I have a sweet P99C-AS that a friend was kind enough to sell me. The trigger is definitely a plus. They are out there if you look hard enough.

I just ordered a new one in 9mm. Should be in hand Tuesday. Replacing my SW99 that is pushing 30k rounds. I love the platform, from the 9 compact up to the .45.

Isotox has it. Curious how support will be if needed. S&W has pretty much thrown support to Walther, but without a .45 in their lineup, who knows.

Nice! I'm going to see if Walther has those available. Tried during the split-up and it was 'call back in a month' for almost a year. I made a couple from Glock sleeves, but they are for the range only.

Unfortunately I do not think Walther will have them. Only place I am aware that ever had new ones was Earl's in Tewksbury.....may find used ones at shows but I'm betting not...the Magazine Extender I have seen on line for about 25$.

Even after it is decock'ed...pull the trigger again and it will go bang....Just a longer pull.

Recently? Or back when they were still working with Walther?

I bought them Feb 2013, right around the time of the SW/Walther split: http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/threads/190699-New-Acquisitions-for-February-2013?p=2954794&viewfull=1#post2954794

You're describing the AS model. QA model will not fire no matter how many times you pull the trigger in the decocked state. I just tested mine to be certain. Here's a video for additional info:

I spoke with someone from Walther at the NRA show last year. The CCP is going to be submitted to MA at some point. One problem is that the CCP has a 5 pound trigger pull and MA requires 10 pounds. That will make the trigger suck, but no doubt someone will come out with a modification.

When I asked the nice lady about getting it on the roster, her first reaction was to roll her eyes. The MA process is very complicated and the AG's non list list makes it even harder.

I'm not a big fan of polymer, but the CCP was very nice.

The VP9 doesn't have a 10 lb trigger, and has no external safety, that's no excuse, but a common misconception cause of the Glock 'ban'.

Walther hasn't put any guns on the roster since they split with S&W, so i wouldn't hold my breath.

It being made in the Umarex factory scares me - that's fine for a .22, but not for a carry gun.

The nice lady, not a booth babe, but a Walther employee fairly high up on the food chain, specifically mentioned the trigger pull. I'll be there again this year (NRA show) and will ask what they've done, if anything in that regard.

I spoke with some people from Walther yesterday and the news wasn't encouraging. As far as the CCP goes, they said that if supply ever catches up with the demand in other states, they'll consider it. For now, no CCP for us.

In other news, I looked at the new and improved Remington R51 as well as their new .380. Both looked good and they seem to have worked the bugs out of the R51. Unlike last year when they were as smooth as sand paper, the R51s I hand cycled were smooth and trouble free. It was interesting that at least some of the guys working the booth were engineers, not sales people. In the case of the R51, the problems were not with the design, but with production. They worked on that process and better training for the assemblers. Or so they told me.

None of them were sure about MA, but one said he didn't think we'd see the R51 here because of the loaded chamber indicator requirements. Pretty much the same answer for the RM380. One guy did tell me that they are not submitting the R51 for the CA roster.

There are a lot of very nice guns on display, many of which we'll never see here.

Which of course is the point of the roster and the AGs non regulation regulations.

I actually posted my 4 inch barrel Walther P99QA (quick action) for sale plus a IDPA/USPSA kit I was very lucky to get it into Mass. I want to sell it in Mass. I think its superior to the PPQ. It has one of the better production triggers I've shot (5.5 lbs hence quick action). One of the best ergonomic grips on any pistol. The post is on the handguns WTS site rice is negotiable.
