AR-15 upgrade info

The DCM went away in the early 90s. It's now the CMP, so you had it right. A lot of places have the free float tubes. Bushmaster, RRA, Compass Lake Engineering and White Oak Precision. They are about $100. Also get a new set of handguards that are ground at the factory. In order to fit your handguards you would need to take out the heat shield and use a grinder to remove material from them. I've got a couple of RRA handguards and they are pretty nice.
As far as a barrel, if you're just starting out try the HBAR. They can shoot surprisingly well. If you want to go straight into a match grade barrel there is a spectrum of prices. From about $275 ~ $400. On the low end DPMS has them for sale at midway usa and White Oak Precision has very good Wilson barrels for about $200. You can also get a RRA for about that much. Beyond that you can get really premium barrels from places like Krieger, Northern Competition (Badger Barrels), Saturn, PacNor..... the list really goes on and on. Most of the aftermarket barrels are going to set you back about $400 or more.
