I found my WWI Luger P08 example (1917 Erfurt) at a yard sale. Now, my WWII example (1938 S/42, Mauser) found me.... literally.
I received a phone call from out of the blue, asking if I would be interested in a "package" of guns, which included a bringback Mauser K98, bringback Luger P08, a 12ga pump shotgun and 22lr revolver. Duh! Of course I was interested!
The legitimacy of the guns made it rather easy to accept the story of a great uncle who brought the Mauser and Luger home from Berlin in 1946. Unfortunately, it appears that the pistol was poorly stored, and rarely cleaned. But everything matches, save the mag, and it's in all original finish.
Considered a shooter I'm sure, by the Luger aficionado, but to me it is a thing of beauty, pits and all. No import marks, no Russian Capture, no reblue, no mongrel parts - it's a legitimate and era correct WWII trophy.
Pics forthcoming, and thanks for looking.
