Announcing the 2009 S&W IDPA Indoor National Championship

Bones,
How is payment made on line?

Respectfully,

jkelly

John,

Once the link is live at noon 20 Dec - PayPal is used to complete the process (sorry - we have no other viable option).

I hope you can make it. We'd love to see you and all the New Bedford/MA State crew there. You guys do a lot to keep this sport alive in New England. If there is a harder working MD than Dave Bold anywhere in the country, I haven't met him/her.

Craig

Yes, there is a difference between the typical monthly match and a sanctioned match. The IDPA rule book outlines what's needed for a match to be sanctioned - usually some type of state or regional championship.

The recent sanctioned matches in the New England area over the last year include:
2008 S&W IDPA Indoor Nationals (Springfield, MA)
2008 MA State IDPA Championship (New Bedford, MA)
2008 GOAL Cup (Harvard, MA)
2008 New England Regional IDPA Championship (New Bedford, MA)
2008 CT State IDPA Championship (Hartford, CT)
2008 ME State IDPA Championship (Scarborough, ME)

Once the link is live at noon 20 Dec - PayPal is used to complete the process (sorry - we have no other viable option).---Bones

Thank you very much Craig, looking forward to shooting with you soon.

Respectfully,

jkelly

Just realized this registration is the same day as the classifier at S&W... I bet that classifier will be lightly attended. :(

There has been some confusion as to the date of the classifier. One website says the 20th and one the 27th. I think its the 27th.

S&W IDPA Classifier - Saturday 27 Dec 08

The IDPA Classifier at S&W will be held on Sat 27 Dec 08. Pre-registration is required and it is full. I do not know if they have started or are going to start a waiting list. You can call the S&W Shooting Sports Center at 1 413 846 6400 for more information.

It is not the same day the Indoor National registration link goes live - 20 Dec 08.

You can do both - as well as shoot the Sunday CSS/WPS United REVOlution ICORE match on Sunday 28 Dec 08. After thoughtful examination, you too will realize ICORE is the light out of the Darkness...

Are there any somewhat local sanctioned matches before the Nationals?

The only one I see on IDPA.com is in PA.

In light (pardon the pun) of recent posts on this and related forums regarding the use, or restricted use, of flashlights, I can tell you that competitors will be required to shoot in a variety of modified and changing lighting conditions both with and without flashlights and/or auxiliary lighting devices.

We hope to see you there,

Craig

Shooter Ready?

Registration opens tomorrow, Saturday 20 Dec 08 at 12:00. The website has been updated with additional information to assist you.

http://www.matchreg.com/sw/

If you are signing on at 12:00 be sure to refresh your screen often to pick a squad, as we expect heavy traffic.

Our registration and stats teams will be standing by to monitor the website tomorrow. Contact info is available on the website if you have any issues.

We are experiencing another serious storm in the Northeast tonight and into the day tomorrow. While we do not anticipate any problems, rest assured all registrations and payment records are time stamped. This data will be used to resolve any conflicts in the rare event they should occur.

We've brought back popular seminars by Jerry Miculek and Scott Warren - and added another to be presented by Team S&W shooter Dave Olhasso. More information on these, and other events and attractions, will be made available on the website as they are confirmed. These seminars are included in your registration fee and open to all registered competitors.

Our sponsorship team is also hard at work and has been very productive. We think you'll be impressed with their work.

To clarify some concerns that have been brought to our attention:

You must have a valid membership and Classification, along with evidence of participating in a sanctioned IDPA match after 19 Feb 2008, when you arrive at the 2009 S&W IDPA Indoor National Championship. For EX, SS and MM shooters, you must have a valid Classifier on record that was shot, or promotion via match performance that was completed, after 19 Feb 08. The IDPA HQ website will be used to verify all of these items (membership, Classification and Sanctioned match record). It is your responsibility to make certain these will be available on the IDPA website for the registration staff when you arrive at the match.

Stage designs will require competitors to shoot with and without hand-held flashlights on selected stages, with the option given on others.

All ammunition, magazines, speed loaders, moonclips guns and gear, and all combination(s) thereof, must meet all applicable power, size and weight restrictions as set forth in the current IDPA rulebook.

The current rd ct is 191 based on stage designs in their final stage of review. I'd bring at least 192.

This, and other useful information, will be routinely updated on the website. Please check it often.

The entire match staff are excited about this match. We're looking forward to seeing many old friends return and new friends made.

We wish you and your families the happiest and safest of Holidays.

Best Regards,

Craig

Act now - slots are going fast.

Thanks to all who registered early and our fantastic Registration and Stats team - we are well on our way to filling. We had a few issues with PayPal and dial-up connections, but we resolved those with individuals as best we could.

The Friday and Saturday squads are full, but there are still slots left on Thursday. Thursday's a great day to shoot the match, especially for local shooters - everybody knows it never snows in New England on Thursday.

Thanks again for all the compliments. We're working hard on the stages and events to earn them on match day as well.

Best Regards,

Craig

Match Status Update

We still have some slots on Thursday. If you haven't signed up yet, take a look at the roster, there may be some folks you wish to shoot with on that day.

We've rationalized the squad numbers - but don't panic - no one has been moved or displaced.

Hotel and prize info is being finalized - we appreciate everyone's patience.

We're obtaining NRA-sanctioning for the match to help our friends driving in from NY and NJ. Once it is approved, we'll post the sanctioning letter so that it can be downloaded and printed.

See you soon,

Craig

The latest information about the match - hotel and accommodation info to follow shortly:

1) This is a list of prizes assembled so far, more is continually being added, so watch this forum nd the website for more details:

3 Certificates for Glock Pistols

1 Certificate for a Para pistol

2 Certificates for Walther SP22 M3’s

2 Certificates for Walther PPS 9mm

2) Ammunition restrictions and considerations for the S&W 2009 IDPA Indoor National Championship at the S&W Shooting Sports Center:

Smith & Wesson prohibits the use of Wolff Brand ammunition on its ranges. Many Wolff ammunition products contain steel-core bullets that have damaged S&W range equipment and facilities. No Wolff Brand ammunition may be used at the S&W Shooting Sports Center. Violation of this Smith & Wesson policy will result in a match disqualification. Smith & Wesson reserves the right to prohibit the use of any ammunition at any time that, in Smith & Wesson’s sole discretion, damages or has the potential to damage Smith & Wesson’s range equipment and facilities or presents a danger to shooters, staff, or others.

Given the significant number of low and no light stages for this match and to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for shooters and staff, the use of jacketed and plated ammunition is strongly recommended. Please consider other shooters and match staff volunteers when making your ammunition component selections.

Best Regards,

Craig

To make traveling easier for many of our competitors, we have recieved NRA Sanctioning for this match.

You can download and print a copy of the NRA-approved regsitration form here: http://www.matchreg.com/sw/

We still have openings on Thursday.

I'd like to extend a special invitation to IDPA revolver shooters. The last registration data set I saw indicated we were over 40 revolver shooters and well on our way to a setting a new IDPA National match revolver attendance record.

When you review the squad listings, remember that the staff and sponsor/reserved squad information is not listed yet. We hope to have that done by the end of next week.

You can register and find lots of other useful information at the link above.

See you soon,

Craig

Is there an exact schedule for whatever clinics that are being planned?

I am shooting Saturday and will probably get a hotel for Friday, so I am interested in what might be going on for Friday and whether or not I would need to sign up ahead of time.

We are looking forward to having you at the event next week. A few items of note…

Please be aware that the S& W Shooting Sports Center has safety policies all competitors must adhere to. You may be used to using designated safety areas at IDPA competitions to bag, unbag and dryfire in safe areas. The S& W Shooting Sports Center has specific safety rules that differ from what you may have experienced at other ranges. Smith & W esson requires that all gun handling must and will be done under the direct supervision an S& W -certified SO. These safety rules prohibit the unsupervised handling of firearms within the facilities before your Shooters Meeting, and prohibit practice draw and dry fire practice before or during the event. Please plan to unbag and holster your firearm on your first stage and to unholster and bag your firearm on your last stage of the day in accordance with these rules. W e have procedures and facilities in place to address typical match events and shooter needs to keep the match running safely and smoothly. Our staff has run several IDPA, ICORE and USPSA matches under these rules and we have an efficient process in place. W e will explain in further detail at the Shooters Meetings and address any questions at that time. W e are contacting you now so that you can plan your match preparation and arrival accordingly to ensure you have a great match experience.

Greetings 2007 S&W IDPA Indoor National Competitors.

To clarify a few last minute match preparation items, below are responses to several questions posed over the last few days.

1) Only a hand held flashlight will be permitted for use on flashlight-required stages. A hand held flashlight is one that is held in, on or by your hand. Barring any mechanical malfunctions, you will be required to use the same flashlight and flashlight configuration throughout the entire match. A hand held flashlight will be required to start and stay in variety of positions and conditions during portions of certain stages. You may use your hand held flashlight for flashlight optional stages.

2) You must use the same sight system throughout the match. Sights that are illuminated on one or some stages and not others are not considered the same sight system. Consistent with IDPA HQs position on luminous paints, polymers and sight systems, you will not be permitted to change sight systems nor charge luminous paints or polymers with a flashlight or other energy source during the match. Illuminating sights will not be permitted in the “load and make ready” procedure and you will not be permitted to illuminate any sight system with anything other than ambient lighting conditions while the gun is holstered on your person. A sight system check is part of the Equipment/Chronograph stage and will be performed on at a least one low light and flashlight stage for all competitors. Your sight system must be the same every time it is checked to avoid an FTDR penalty. If your primary firearm breaks, you may use the sight system on your back-up.

In summary, the same sight system and flashlight/flashlight configuration must be used throughout the match.

I hope this clarifies any ambiguities in previously provided information or interpretations. I regret the length of the description, but recent questions and discussions necessitate this degree of clarity.

On a lighter note – the weather forecast indicates it may be sunny (outside) and in the high 60s (inside) for part of the week.

See you soon and Best Regards,

Craig
