ACK!!! M1 carbine sling

I spent an hour yesterday trying to install the sling/oiler on my new Boyd's stock. The dimensions appear to be identical to my surplus birch potbelly stock in terms of the slots.

But all I managed to do was put some small chips in the wood. Help!

Are you talking with or height of the oppening? They are a tight fit side to side, especially when using a repro sling and oiler that is new. I had to wiggle mine in there when I first installed it and that was using both US GI sling, oiler, and stock.

They are a bugger to install, aren't they?

Wait until you get it all done and find out that you 'threaded' it wrong !

It's absurd.

I think I'm going to take a heavy pair of pliers and try crushing the tip (D shaped thing) so that it's thin enough to go through.

I gently tapped my oiler in with a block of pine and a rubber tipped mallet. I never plan on removing it.
