I'm going through a bunch of stuff the I inherited from Machine gun Bill and came across these vintage 45 rounds on a clip. What gun were these made to charge?

The base of the 45 ACP is the same as the base of a 30-06 or 308, .473 in. So those could have been left over from some one just sticking them in the clip.

Doing the Occam's Razor thing, I'd say that a field expedient for storing loose .45 rounds is more likely than stripper clips for the .45 Broomhandle, as those were "locally produced" in China, I believe, as opposed to being a "real" model.

Just my opinion.

ETA: also, the cartridges themselves seem to vary, as opposed to this being a factory-filled clip.

.45ACP uses the same shellholder as 30-06 & 308 (RCBS #3) {0.480" dia rim vs 0.473" dia}

That looks kinda like an 8mm Mauser stripper clip (also 0.473" dia per the Lyman book)

1917 pistol??? I forget if both or one or hte other (Colt/Smith) indexed on the case mouth and could be loaded sans moon clips.

There is nothing that loads .45acp from a stripper clip.

That is a rifle ammo stripper, either 8mm or 308 that someone just stuck some .45acp in.
