That time of season. Son and I practiced on 5 ghastly gourds with three pistols. I have two surgeries set for this month (tomorrow - outpatient, and the 28th - inpatient), so this is my last time out for a while. I might get one more try before the 28th, and I'll bring something bigger. He shot a 1939 M35 Beretta, and I used a 1920 M03 Colt and a 1910 M07 Dreyse. The Dreyse was on the target, the '03 on the Gourds. The Dreyse has been for sale for a month now as a rig and no takers - so I thought I'd take it for another squirt.
The target was 30 feet. The sights are terrible on the Dreyse, its clunky and ugly, but I guess that makes it cute. Shot 2 magazines out of it - repro magazines suck - jammed pretty good. I've never had a reproduction magazine shoot well.
The kid missed his targets completely. I drilled three of the gourds a few times and we saved two for later. Remington FMJ/RN 71 gr. does not pack much Gourd Mutilation.
