Was out walking with dogs yesterday morning and they put up a woodcock. Bird was under a big pine tree where the snow had melted off.

I have never seen one this time of year. Maybe his GPS is broken or he came down from Nova Scotia and hung around?

They are heading North after their winter stay in the South. I usually start seeing them here the first or second week of March, depending on the weather conditions.

Correct. They start showing up between mid-March and mid-April.
