My ex-German Army P1 came today - November 1981 date of manufacture. Excellent condition, full rig, with discreet import mark on front strap. Now I can shoot all the 9mm I want and spare my mint 3/1944 'cyq' Spreewerke P38. I've three boxes of 124gr 9mm NATO on the way.

Range is under 20" of snow at the moment, so it may be a while before I can test it - it does have a luminous dot front sight. While my youngest gun, it is still C&R and a Cold War Icon.

Very nice!
Remind me of bringing one of these to NE on our next trip

I have one of those gay MP Holsters w/ shoulder strap, too

Well cold blue didn't take to darken the import mark; but fine point Sharpie does.

A pass with a jag/Hoppes/patch and a bore snake and the barrel is pristine.

That's the last time I take out the toggle. Unlike the P38, the P1 has a retention spring. Took me a half hour to finagle the damn thing back in. Of course the matched EP SN was on the other side.

Finally got to the range today. 37 degrees, clear, sunny, windy, cold. Shot 6 magazines, rapid fire, at 50 feet. My wrist is always too loose on my first mag - those are the most right and low.

Functioned perfectly, save it ejects straight back and I took at least a dozen cases off the head, face, and neck.

The Winchester NATO 124gr hasn't arrived yet, so I used 115gr Winchester. Recoil very manageable.

Second try. 37 degrees, still, overcast. 42 rounds WIN NATO 124gr FMJ/RN. There was a little more bite on the recoil, but that may be the fact I was not wearing gloves this time. 50 feet, rapid fire.

I've got an argument going on on my cross-post on Gunboards. Some say I can shoot Winchester NATO 124gr FMJ/RN, others say I can't, and should use 115gr loads. I specifically bought a late, double reinforced piece (slide/frame), so I could use heavier loads.

Importer is P.W. Arms, Richmond.

Tried it at 60 feet with the 115 Winchester as I've a lot of that on hand. Shot one mag square to the target 2 hands, and 8 more one handed, side presentation. I find with the pistol in front of me, I get a lot of cases to the head - three hits today hard enough to draw blood. I also find as a lefty, the slide release can dig into my trigger finger. Alas, another pistol really meant for right handed people.[angry]
