McGinty Comes From Behind To Win USPSA’s Summer Blast Open Pistol Title

Sedro-Woolley, WA — James McGinty of Tabernacle, NJ, waited until the last possible moment to make his move and capture the Open Division title at the 8th Annual Summer Blast charity pistol match held July 10-13 in Dallastown, Pennsylvania.

“We’re thrilled to see James win. He shot a great match and demonstrated, that despite being a junior shooter, he has the poise to master the mental aspects of high level competition,” said Larry Houck, match director of the Summer Blast.

McGinty, who finished in 10th place in 2007, started the match strong by beating the entire field on the first stage, but immediately fell to second behind Clint Upchurch of Inman, South Carolina. Upchurch slowly built his lead over the next seven stages until McGinty, trailing in second by just over 23 match points, made his move by winning the final stage and the 2008 Open Division title with 1188.2518 points.

Upchurch finished in second just 4.7356 points behind McGinty. Rounding out the top five were Todd Sindelar of Mechanicsville, Maryland, last year’s second place finisher, with 1132.7195 points to take third, John Fadorsen of Columbus, Ohio, in fourth with 1107.0348 points and less than one match point behind him was Ron Francisco of Gainesville, Virginia, in fifth with 1106.5157 points. Francisco placed fourth in 2007 and fifth in 2006.

The USPSA Summer Blast charity pistol match was held at the York Izaak Walton League in Dallastown, Pennsylvania. Since its inception, the match has raised over $15,000 for local charities. A total of 331 top shooters, a record number, competed this year for titles in USPSA’s Open, Limited, Limited-10, Production, Revolver and Single Stack divisions.
