A Parker County homeowner shot and killed an intruder Wednesday morning and was wounded himself in the exchange of gunfire, Parker County Sheriff's officials said.

Sheriff's deputies responded at 5 a.m. to the shooting call in the 500 block of Spring Creek Parkway. When they arrived deputies found a man dead at the scene, according to a Parker County Sheriff's Office news release.

The release stated that the homeowner was awakened by barking dogs, saw a back door open and found an intruder inside his home.....

Sheriff's deputies said the intruder was armed with a shotgun and attempting to get away with a stash of guns when the homeowner grabbed his own shotgun and an exchange of gunfire took place, leaving the homeowner wounded in his left forearm and fatally wounding the burglar.

The burglar was later pronounced dead at the scene.

"He is a 20-year veteran," said Ralph Tidwell talking about his friend and neighbor. "So, he kind of knows what he is doing. Anyway, he spotted the guy and from there, who knows. You would have to ask Gary that."....
