Two young girls shot in Dorchester
By Adrienne P. Samuels and April Simpson, Globe Staff

Boston Police are investigating the shootings of two young girls this afternoon in Dorchester.

Police responded to a house on Mountain Avenue about 2:45 p.m. and found the girls injured inside. They were taken to Boston Medical Center's pediatric emergency room, where they are being treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The girls were listed in stable condition. A bullet went through an 11-year-old girl, while another bullet "skinned" the face of a younger relative, a family member said.

Police asked for the public's help with information about suspects, but had not made any arrests by late this afternoon.

As Boston is hit with a surge of shootings -- there had been 321 through Oct. 22, up 15 percent over last year -- it's not the first time that young girls have been in the crossfire. In April, on Creston Street in Roxbury, five teens were hit in a drive-by shooting, including a 15-year-old girl who was struck in the leg and a 16-year-old struck in the shoulder.

Thnk God they weren't hurt worse than that.

Unfortunately, it's nothing we haven't seen a zillion times and we'll see it a zillion more. And so it goes in Meninostan...
