Two, yes, two Appleseeds are being held in Connecticut on the same weekend in Connecticut, February 26-27, 2011. If you are in or close to Connecticut, come to on of the two. If you come, you might earn the "winterseed" patch.

One is in Chaplin, at the Fin, Fur and Feather Club. Chaplin is east of Hartford, and also about an hour from Springfield. Heck, it's only an hour and forty-five minutes from Boston doing the speed limit.

The other is in Colebrook at the Northwest Connecticut Sportsmen's Association. Colebrook is very close to the Massachusetts border, northwest of Hartford, and about an hour's drive from Springfield, Mass.

The information for both of them is below.

State Laws to be aware of: CT does have an "Assault Weapon" Ban that is SIGNIFICANTLY MORE STRICT than the expired Federal AWB. For example, rifles are banned by name and include the "Colt AR-15" and "AK-47", among others. Semiautomatic rifles are also banned by features. However, there is no magazine capacity restriction. Folks, please be careful with this. For a complete list of banned-by-name rifles and feature restrictions, you may check CT laws here:

Misc:

Lets see, Appleseed in February in 15-25 degree temps or Appleseed in April through September anywhere else and temps above 50.???~!!

What do you think the guys at Valley Forge said about the temps? Yep, probably that they'd rather be somewhere else doing something other than freezing their butts off.

And yet we had a fantastic shoot in Lebanon at this same gun club in January with the low temps. I didn't hear a complaint from anyone despite morning temperatures around 1 deg F (though it warmed into the upper 20s by the afternoon)!

If you missed it,

Too bad for you. Really, it was a fun shoot. Besides, you got shown up by a teenager of about 13 - 15 who earned a patch with a score in the 220s then backed it up with a 237.

3 out of the 4 shooters who attended both days earned a patch by shooting a rifleman's score.

If you are really that worried about the weather, are you Rifleman material?
And we had nice weather.

I concur with DJMc, I got shifted to the Colebrook shoot at the last minute. No new Riflemen, but a bunch of previous Riflemen reshot it and instructors requalified. It was snowing pretty heavily this morning when I requalified with a 216 on aperture sights, so I got a coveted Winterseed patch.
