Subscribing to threads

Is there any way not to automatically subscribe to a thread? I view a post and before I know it I have 40 emails saying there are replies. It's simple enough to delete them but I'm curious if there's a way to avoid getting all the emails. Thanks

Go to Profile, Edit Options, Message and Notification, Default Thread Subscription Mode, and set it to No E-mail Notification mode.
