Nerd Alert.

Since there isn't a dedicated Smith Chart thread, I thought I'd kick one off. I've been trying to learn how the hell they're used and I found some good information. This is kind of like Smith Charts 102, assuming you already know what they're about (Smith Charts 101).

I grabbed a few screen shots from the video to keep in my notes. The first shows how different elements in your matching circuit move your load's impedance.

This one shows the areas of the chart where the various LC circuits can move the load's impedance. You can see there will always be two solutions to choose from, and he goes over that a little in the video. Once you know what type of circuit you want, you work backwards from the load and Bob's your uncle.

* Yes, I know you aren't changing the load, just the source's (your transceiver's) perception of the load.
