The "tan colored pillow theatre" presents...

xfive.jpg

Was bored and farting around with the camera, so figured I'd post
it.

Yes, this is about as close as one gets to sex condensed into the
form of a semiautomatic handgun. 50+ ounces of steel, 3.5lb ish
trigger, short reset, single action, sig reliability, etc.

Well, it's not quite -that- good. [grin]

But it drives tacks. Like, hit-a-small-gong @ 50 yards
every time kind of tacks. And it's one of the few guns that I
actually -LIKE- having a target type blade sight on, because the black
sights contrast nicely with the finish, so getting proper alignment is easy.

As much as I like the X-Five, its demise domestically is pretty much
written on the wall. The biggest problem with this gun is it's only
really useable in one format, and that is in .40 S+W, and really then only
in USPSA/IPSC Limited 10. (You can get higher cap mags for it, but it
won't hold nearly as much as say, a para S16.40 or the like). So
what we have here folks, is a gun without a purpouse. Some might
say "Bullseye!" but theres no optics mount, and .45 ACP pretty much
rules the roost for bullseye in america. I've used it to
shoot steel so far, in an event where theres no gun restriction. I'm sure
theres a few sports you could run it in, but not many.

The other problem is all the weird goodies (eg optics mounts, compensators,
etc... aren't being imported or made by SigSauer, which leaves it to the
realm of expensive custom gunsmithing.)

All that being said, would I buy one again if given another opportunity?

Hell yes. It's that good. But Why?

"Bang! DING! "
"Bang! DING! "

(repeat this until you run out of ammo).

The only guns that can top it accuracy wise (in 9mm) are
probably the P210 and the SW 952, and probably some custom
built guns. The thing locks up like a bank vault. If they only
built the domestic Sigs this way.... (this gun is full german proofed,
etc.).

What type of capacity can you get out of a .40 mag loaded up? Can you get at least 17? Otherwise I would agree with you that it wouldn't be effective for USPSA Limited division. How does it compare to a high end 1911? Do you have any issues with the Sigs grip angle?

Sweet gun.

I think in .40 the factory basepads allow 14 rounds total.... therein lies the
problem. I think there were some aftermarket ones (CPMI?) but they
weren't much better and only added another round. If someone made a
nice basepad/bottom for the factory mags it probably wouldn't be so bad. The
more fundamental problem however is the P226 grip frame doesn't really doesn't
cater to .40 all that well, as the grip frame was really meant for 9mm.

The gun points very well, I think a lot of that has to do with the way they
contoured the grip. It's different from my 1911s, but not different enough
that it would change the way I shoot. The beavertail helps a lot in that
regard, I think. (allows at least a slightly higher grip than normal). The
only thing that takes some getting used to is the width of the gun. It's
"fat" up top compared to a 2011 or 1911, so the safety takes some getting
used to, although I have small hands and I can still enable and disable
it easily.

Nice. Have looked at it myself a bit but it just doesn't fit me very well. Now the P210...that fits me nice. Hard to drop almost $2.5 - 3k on one pistol though.

The main thing that scared me away from a P210 was the cost of the
magazines. The gun being $2000+ is alarming, but it's not nearly as
alarming as magazines that cost $70 or more easily... and the going rate is
often over $100 apiece- and it gets worse if you have the version of the
gun with the american mag release instead of the heel.

They ARE nice guns though.... pretty much the only one of its kind... a bit
out of reach for me, though. (in terms of spending that much $$$$ on one
pistol!)
