I was thinking about using a shooting stick in my tree stands to just give me an extra edge with my shotgun, i figure any advantage is best ... any opinions ?
I suggest you buy a stand with a rail on it. You are sitting so you shouldn't need any artificial support. Just a proper form. You don't have that much room in a stand for extra things like shooting sticks.
If you already have the stand, you can buy just a rail system with a ratchet tie down on it. I don't know who makes them, but I have one so for sure they are out there.
I've seen one with a curved plastic part that rests on your knee as you're sitting. Unfortunately, my Google-fu has failed me and I can't find it online.
I bought a cheap Dick's one: single pole, with three adjustable segments. The one pole helps steady yourself for elevation, but you still can sway side to side.
After using it I regret not getting a pair of shooting sticks, that supports in 2 directions. Pros on Versus seem to deploy them quickly. One rifle pro uses a tripod.
